Internet Merchant Account and Payment Gateway Recommendations

In order to simplify the process of obtaining your internet merchant account and payment gateway account we only give our recommendation to merchant account providers that have set-up arrangements with gateway providers. This assures that the two accounts get set up correctly and streamlines the process.

Merchant account providers want your business so they will work with you in an attempt to be sure you qualify. We’ve listed the providers that we are most satisfied with. The merchant account providers listed here are very competitively priced, are well established, and have no application fee. These are the providers that we currently give our recommendation for to our consulting customers.

Though we frequently check pricing structures for our merchant account provider recommendation, prices may change during the interim. Please confirm current pricing with the account representative when you sign up.

Note that Authorize.net, and some other gateway providers, do not sell their gateway services to the public. You need to go through one of their authorized resellers (Internet Merchant Account Providers such as those listed below).

Recommendation notes:
Our top Februrary/March, 2006 recommendations include Total Merchant Services, Charge.com, and Merchant Account Express. We are getting good feedback on Charge.com and Merchant Account Express. Both of these have moved up our recommendation list. Merchant Account Express which has an outstanding discount rate buydown that will be very appealing to merchants who have high dollar volumes. Total Merchant Services has dropped down in our list this month due to feedback we’ve recieved from some users who have been experiencing problems (mostly with chargeback handling). Though their rates are very good, they may be reaching that point of growth where service is no longer “job one”.

All of these providers allow you to accept major credit cards including Discover.

Banc Certified Merchant Services is newly added to our recommendations because of their excellent fee structure. Though we do not have personal experience with Banc Certified Merchant Services they process over
$50 million transanctions per month. Banc Certified is a member, in good standing, of the Better Business Bureau. After signing up with Banc Certified we’d welcome an email letting us know about your experiences (info@ourshop.com). Click here for Bank Certified.

For merchants that do not already have their own shopping cart, Banc Certified Merchant Services also offers a shopping cart that is included in the fees listed. The Authorize.net gateway should allow this merchant account provider to connect with most popular shopping carts. Their pricing structure makes them appropriate for merchants of all sizes.

Charge.com has a $0 setup and application fee as an advertised special. The $195.00 setup fee fee listed here is their “Internet Software Purchase Price”. The $195.00 can be replaced with a $39.95/6mo software lease. The internet software packages is needed for web site shopping carts with this merchant account provider.Because of the lower “per transaction” fee, this internet merchant account provider is better for e-commerce sites that have a large number of smaller priced orders.

Charge.com’s low transaction fee makes this provider an excellent choice for merchants with a large number of low dollar amount internet transactions. The higher discount rate can be offset by the low transaction fee when there are a large number of transactions. If you are a non-US business you may want to go directly to the Card Services Internation gateway provider and use their merchant account provider. The discount rate is slightly higher but they have a promotion that will wave the application and setup fees.

Merchant Account Express now offers an interesting deal where you can pay a 1 time $50.00 “buydown” fee and change your discount rate to 2.17%. This is ideal for merchants with low volume but higher average order totals. It equates to a $12 savings per $1,000.00. A $4,000.00 – $5,000.00 monthly volume would pay for the buydown in one month. The setup fee of $129.00 is a Authorize.Net License/Setup fee.

The one time buydown of the discount rate for this internet merchant account provider is new. We do not have any feedback from consulting customers on it yet but from our conversations with the merchant account provider it appears to be an excellent deal.

The Total Merchant Services and accompanying Authorize.net gateway account will work perfectly with the shopping carts provided by all of our recommended hosting companies. The Authorize.net payment gateway works with most online shopping cart solutions. Be sure to check with your hosting company or shopping cart provider to be sure that the cart uses Authorize.net or one of the other payment gateways listed above. Our clients who use Total Merchant Services (home) have been very satisfied with this internet merchant account provider.

The first step with virtually all merchant account providers is to fill out an application. A sales representative will then call you. You should expect this same procedure with all internet merchant account providers.

Click here for the Total Merchant Services Application.

NOTE: Total Merchant Services account pricing that is listed on their web site is higher than what is listed here. We have been assured that customers coming from OurShop.com will get these prices. After completing the internet merchant account application you will be contacted by a sales representative. Be sure to confirm that these prices (or better) are the ones you will have. We put a good deal of effort into finding the best rates for our consulting customers and frequently confirm pricing.also see recommendation notes (above)
